National Day of Repentance

“Be watchful, stand firm in the faith, act like men, be strong.” 1 Corinthians 16: 13

2012-02newsletter1National Day of Repentance

1 February marked our National Day of Repentance in South Africa. It was on this day, 15 years ago, that abortion was legalized. The death toll for the unborn has since exceeded 1 million.

Christian Action organized the annual funeral procession to Parliament in Cape Town, followed by a prayer vigil of repentance at the front gates. The funeral procession, complete with a hearse and Christian ‘mourners’ carrying coffins and posters, moved through the city streets displaying God’s heart on this matter.

This was also a great outreach opportunity for Gospel tract distribution.

Why are these white men coming into our country?

"Pure and undefiled religion before God and the Father is this: to visit orphans and widows in their trouble…"
James 1:27

Committed to Congo

“Why are these white men coming into our country when all the others are leaving?” the French speaking Congolese commander asked Pastor Jeff, our host. The scene was at a military road block soon after we crossed the border of Zambia in December, on our way to Lubumbashi, DR Congo.

Our team was on the way to visit our friends at Bishop Lamba Lamba’s ‘Come and See’ church.

Before the Commander arrived on the scene, a young soldier, with an AK47 slung over his shoulder, stopped our vehicle and went crazy shouting and screaming – I thought he was on drugs. By God's Grace Bishop John Jere, Ron, Dave and I, all squashed up in the mini-van, survived this ‘prayer enhancing’ experience.

Jesus our hope

“For unto us a Child is born, unto us a Son is given; and the government will be upon His shoulder. And His Name will be called Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. Of the increase of His government and peace there will be no end…”   Isaiah 9:6-7

Dear Friend

I’m sure you are acutely aware of the global economic anxiety—and in some nations, the economic upheaval, which is especially real here in Africa.

But as fellow believers in Christ Jesus, you and I also follow the Good News, and we know this season is alive with an amazing hope, as it marks the beginning of the giving of the greatest gift this world has ever known—the birth of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. In fact, it is the point of our entire purpose. As 1 Corinthians 2:19 states, For what is our hope, or joy, or crown of rejoicing? Is it not even you in the presence of our Lord Jesus Christ at His coming?”

Despite all the challenges we’ve witnessed around the world, the Word of the Lord is still changing lives here in Africa.

“So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the Word of God.” Romans 10:17

Music and missions

“And He Himself gave some to be apostles, some prophets, some evangelists, and some pastors and teachers, for the equipping of the saints for the work of ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ, till we all come to the unity of the faith and of the knowledge of the Son of God…"   Ephesians 4:11-13

Music concert

The children of friends in California asked their parents if they could do a music concert; they want the proceeds to support our ministry in Africa.

We are very excited about this and yet also humbled by these young children who want to use their talents to make a difference in Africa by supporting Gospel work and discipleship.

They also requested a list of items needed for the mission hospital we are equipping in Lubumbashi, Congo, so that they can be specific in their fund allocations.

Further, the music teacher of the children, Doug Hammond, who has performed before US presidents, has agreed to take part in the concert in support of his students’ ministry endeavors.

Praise the Lord for these young mission partners - may the flame kindled in their hearts grow into a consuming fire that will inspire them to support world missions for many years.

Anti-trafficking organizations in a public protest

"Rescue those being led away to death, hold back those staggering towards slaughter." Proverbs 24:11

Human trafficking

On Wednesday 21 September members of our ministry and I joined several anti-trafficking organizations in a public protest at the gates of Parliament to focus national attention on this growing crime in South Africa. Women and girls graphically portrayed the hideous sexual exploitation of the human slave trade by dressing in tattered and torn garments; they were also bound with chains.
